Nine Take-Out Eateries in Banff and Lake Louise

By Bre Mirynech

Here in Banff and Lake Louise, outdoor dining is in this season. We’re embracing fresh air tailgate picnics and backpack lunches, and luckily, we have some of the best take-out options in the Rockies to bring along. We know you’ve dreamed of your days on the slopes, and they’re finally here! So, here is your guide to help keep you fueled for those big days at our amazing resorts.

1. Three Bears

The newest restaurant to join Banff’s food scene, Three Bears Brewery and Restaurant has everything you need after a big day on the slopes. Their scratch-cooked offerings include everything from pizza to crab donuts to curry. There’s something for everyone on this variety-filled menu. You can even get your après on from the comfort of your cozy bed thanks to their take-out beer (yeah, you read that right). Plus, you can easily order your take out meals online.

2. Banff Sunshine Village

Grab and go food and beverage options are available for purchase at Banff Sunshine Village. In the Village, you can visit Centennial Day Lodge, Trappers and Brunos, Trappers Outdoor Snow Garden, Tenn Roof Co. Taco Truck, and Java Lift in Sunshine Mountain Lodge. At Goat’s Eye Station, options are available at Goat’s Eye Lodge, and in the base area at Java Station and Creekside Bar and Grill. At these food and beverage locations, pre-prepared and packaged items will be available for purchase at a service counter, however, table service will not be provided.

3. Laggan’s Bakery

This little bakery in Lake Louise is probably known around the world by now. If you’re adventuring in the Lake Louise area or just passing through, Laggan's Bakery is a stop that everyone makes sure is on their list. Kick start your day with a hot cup of coffee and various breakfast options. Or treat yourself after your adventure to something sweet and delicious from their wide range of (drool-worthy) treats. They have a great range of gluten-free, dairy-free, and vegetarian options, too! Like TripAdvisor says, “you really haven’t had the ‘Lake Louise experience’ if you haven’t stopped by Laggan’s.”

4. Eddie Burger

Eddie loves burgers… like, a lot, and we know you do too! It’s hard to go wrong with a good ole’ burger, and luckily Eddie knows burgers better than anyone. With patty choices like beef, elk, or beyond meat, the whole family will have their burger cravings satisfied here. They put delicious spins on tried and true classics - try out the Red, White & Blue or the Rocky Mountain burgers for something a little different. Treat yourself to a deep-friend pickles upgrade if you feel like you need a little extra fuel. Insider tip: get yourself a milkshake to go. You won’t be disappointed! Order online here.

5. Trailhead Cafe

Another Lake Louise classic, this family-owned café has been serving the village for years. Trailhead Cafe is known for their signature sandwiches, wraps, and breakfast, you will find what you need here before your day at the resort and after too! Soups, signature sandwiches, speciality coffees, and their friendly staff will leave you feeling warm after a cold winter’s day. Enjoy easy parking lot pick up at this cafe before heading up to Lake Louise Ski Resort.

6. Lake Louise Ski Resort

Lake Louise Ski Resort has several take out options available at their eateries for you to grab breakfast or lunch. Be on the lookout for one of their pop-up barbeque tents, or grab something from Kokanee Kabin, Lodge of Ten Peaks Cafe, Slopeside Coffee, Whiskey Jack Lodge, Whitehorn Bistro,  and Temple Lodge. They have limited seating in the lodges for you to warm-up and eat your take-out quickly. You can also find a picnic table outside or have a picnic at your vehicle. Check back to their website for the most up-to-date information on hours, menus, and outdoor seating.

7. STOCK

STOCK Food and Drink is a locally inspired, stylish market located in the Fairmont Banff Springs. With their gourmet foods, delicious coffee, and artisanal meals, STOCK is here to give you what you need for your moment in the mountains. If you’re staying at the Fairmont, a stop here is perfect to take to enjoy en route to the ski hill. Not at the Fairmont? Add this place to your list to warm up with a hot tea while touring through the magical “castle” on your day off from skiing.

8. The Balkan

Beginning December 18th, The Balkan in Banff will be open for take-out! Enjoy delicious Greek offerings including all of the go-to favourites, like Balkan donairs, Arni Pisto, or Spankapotia. Order online ahead of time to satisfy your cravings in no time!

9. The Juniper

The Juniper's Grab-And-Go Winter Adventure Menu is exactly what you need before heading to ski the slopes at Mt. Norquay. Enjoy a selection of artisan sandwiches catered to every meal of the day - breakfast, lunch and dinner. Or mix things up with a charcuterie board to go, featuring local Valbella charcuterie and Canadian cheeses.

BONUS - Mt. Norquay

Mt. Norquay is serving up apres take away this season! Pick up a Grizzly Paw Growler (that's four pints!) filled with local craft beer to enjoy apres from the comfort of your home or hotel.

Now that you have your take-out meal picked, it’s time to get creative! Think tailgate picnics, winter campfires, or even a well-earned dinner in bed after a full day of skiing. If you're picking up meals to head to the resorts, make sure you have all the essentials for an enjoyable outdoor dining experience to keep your hot meals hot and your cold meals cold.

Whether you’re looking to start your day or you’re chasing that après, Banff and Lake Louise’s incredible restaurants and cafés have all of the take-out you need to start and finish your day.

Celebrating 100 Years of Mt. Norquay – Centennial Celebrations

This year, Mt. Norquay turns 100, and for a resort that has taught generations of Alberta locals how to ski and snowboard, that calls for a proper, mountain-sized celebration. On May 28, Norquay is hosting a centenary “Day of Nostalgia,” bringing the community together to celebrate a century of history, heart, and that unmistakable locals’ hill vibe.
