Banff National Park has it all: incredible views, fresh mountain air, fantastic snow and, of course, fondue. The most heartwarming food on the planet and a true winter holiday indulgence. If cozy, alpine vibes and dipping stuff in cheese is your style, here are the best fondues in Banff and Lake Louise. Whether you’re looking for elegance, amazing views, or something totally out there - there is a fondue restaurant in Banff and Lake Louise for you.

If you're looking for something with amazing views...

It also serves up one of the best cheese fondues in Lake Louise, thoughtfully created with the finest seasonal ingredients like the rest of its alpine-inspired menu.

If you're looking for something authentic...

Walliser Stube, Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise

best-fondue-in-banff-walliser-stube-fairmont-chateau-lake-louise An elegant evening, you'll never forget. | Walliser Stube, Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise

Friendly, intimate, with dark wood and big views - dining at the Walliser Stube is like stepping back in time. Back to the days when Swiss Mountain Guides were leading first ascents up Banff National Park’s most famous peaks, and carving their legacy into this land, some 120 years ago. Now, following their tradition of gathering, feasting, and sharing stories in the “Stube” (a cozy, mountain living room) the Walliser Stube is proud to serve the best cheese and chocolate fondues outside of Switzerland.

For an elegant evening out, try their Chateau Experience, a special menu starting with their famous Kase Fondue - a blend of gruyere, Emmental and appenzeller cheese, served with freshly baked bread, pickled baby vegetables and green apple. You have the choice of either the Traditional Fondue (garnished with nutmeg and black pepper), the Mushroom & Shallot Fondue (with truffle, morel, and chanterelles), or the Lobster & Scallion Fondue (with butter-poached Nova Scotia lobster pieces). Drooling yet? The meal ends with a Toblerone Chocolate Fondue, paired with bite-sized chunks of homemade marshmallow, strawberries, and spiced pastry. Now that’s a meal.

Been there fon-done that? If you’re looking for a fondue restaurant in Banff and Lake Louise unlike anything you’ve ever tried before, you need to visit The Grizzly House. Nestled between the brightly-lit shops of Banff Ave, The Grizzly Houses’ unassuming wood-panelled frame leads into one of the most eclectic and exotic dining spots in downtown Banff. Opened in 1967, this was Western Canada’s first disco nightclub, once known for go-go dancers before it was known for fondue.

Their fabulous fondues and sizzling hot rock selections are available in 14 different varieties including beef, buffalo, chicken, rattlesnake, lobster, and shark. Plus, they offer a variety of complete fondue dinners (for two or more people) from their Swiss-inspired Neuchatel Fondue Dinner to their Exotic Fondue featuring bite-sized pieces of alligator, ostrich and frog legs. When we said something different, we meant something different.

If cottage vibes are your vibe, the Waldhaus Restaurant should be up there on your Banff and Lake Louise bucket list. Known as a “Bavarian-style cottage in the woods”, the Waldhaus sticks true to its reputation with German-inspired dark wood decor, homelike floor-to-ceiling curtains, and a warm stone fireplace. When big, fat snowflakes start to fall outside - it’s simply magic.

Take a seat and warm up with one of the best fondues in Banff and Lake Louise - their Fondue Experience. A rich, traditional cheese fondue blended with Emmental, gruyere, white wine, garlic, kirsch, and nutmeg served with apples, gherkins and slices of crisp baguette - paired with a hearty entree and Valrhona Chocolate Fondue dessert. If you’ve got nowhere to be, add a premium wine pairing to your meal and your choice of Frangelico, Baileys or Kahlua to your chocolate fondue.

If you're looking for something family-friendly...

Ticino Swiss-Italian Restaurant, Banff

best-fondue-in-banff-ticino-chocolate-fondue Famous for its traditional Swiss fondue and warm hospitality. | Ticino Swiss-Italian Restaurant, Banff

One of Banff’s most treasured local businesses, Ticino Swiss-Italian Restaurant has been family-owned and operated since 1979. Born and raised in Switzerland, its owner and host extraordinaire, Erwin Widmer, immigrated to Banff, Canada, more than 50 years ago to raise a family and bring authentic Swiss cuisine to the Canadian Rockies. Now, his family welcomes your family with genuine warmth and hospitality you can feel as soon as you step foot in the doors.

Cooked with love and traditional Swiss-Italian techniques, Ticino’s offers three dinner fondues: Cheese (Formaggio) featuring a blend of gruyere and Emmental, Meat (Carne) featuring cubes of AAA Alberta beef, venison or buffalo cooked in hot oil, and a lighter meat version (Fonduta “Mar-e-Mont”) served with thinly sliced strips of AAA Alberta beef and shrimp. Not to mention, your little ones will love the “Fonduta di Cioccolato” (you guessed it, Chocolate Fondue) served up in traditional Swiss style with seasonal fruits. Sit back, relax, and enjoy a wholesome family meal at this fondue restaurant in Banff with a round of cocktails featuring locally-made Wild Life Distillery spirits for the grown-ups. You’re on vacation, after all.
