Summer in Banff: 3 must-do adventures

Summer in Banff National Park will leave you with memories to last a lifetime. From taking in the panoramic views from the chairlift at Lake Louise to spotting the wildlife and wildflowers in the meadows at Banff Sunshine Meadows or summiting to the top of mountains at Mt. Norquay, there are plenty of activities to discover with options for every age and experience. If you're looking for bucket-list-worthy sightseeing activities, here are three you won't want to miss.

Llsr Summer

1. Banff Sunshine Meadows

For some seriously stunning mountain wilderness, Sunshine Meadows at Banff Sunshine Village should be at the top of your list. Nestle high in the alpine, it's the perfect place for an unforgettable sightseeing and hiking adventure. Kick off your journey with a ride on the famous, colourful gondola up to the village at 2,160 meters. Continue the adventure by hopping on the Standish Express Sightseeing Chairlift which will take you up to the Standish Viewing Deck where you'll be able to soak in the breathtaking views of the crystal-clear Laryx, Grizzly, and Rock Isle Lakes, along with sweeping mountain vistas.

If you're up for some more exploration, check out some of the many hiking trails and stroll along the vibrant wildflowers. After all the exploring, unwind with a delicious lunch and refreshing drink at Mad Trapper's. It's the perfect way to cap off your day in this alpine paradise!

Open daily from June 28th, 2024.

2. Lake Louise Ski Resort Summer Sightseeing Gondola & Chairlift

The Lake Louise Summer Sightseeing and Gondola is an absolute must-visit. Whether you choose the chairlift or the gondola, you'll be treated to some of the most iconic views in the Canadian Rockies, including Lake Louise itself. On your way up, keep an eye out for wildlife - you might even spot a grizzly bear from the lift!

Once you reach the top, you can join a guided walk or hike, with options ranging from easy 45-minute strolls to more challenging 4-hour hikes. Prefer to explore on your own? There are plenty of marked trails for self-guided adventure.

After your explorations, there are plenty of great dining options waiting for you. Heat to Banded Peak Base Camp back down at the base for some casual bites, or if you want to savour those incredible views and for a more fine dining experience, refuel on the picturesque deck at the Whitehorn Bistro.

Open daily from June 7, 2024.

Llsr Summer Chairlift

3. Mt Norquay Sightseeing & Via Ferrata

Explore, climb, relax, and experience Banff like never before at Mt. Norquay. Just a quick 10-minute drive from downtown Banff, or hop on the free shuttle from various spots around town.

Begin your climb to 7,000 feet as you hop on the iconic North American Chairlift, where you'll pass over natural grizzly and black bear habitats. Once you reach the top, breathe in the fresh mountain air and enjoy panoramic views at the sightseeing lookout of the Bow Valley and the legendary Mt. Rundle. Whilst you're at the top, treat yourself to some high-altitude dining at the Cliffhouse Bistro, with a retro, European chalet vibe featuring a mountain-inspired menu and craft beer on tap - it's one of the best mountain-gazing lunch spots in the Rockies.

For real mountain adventurers, try scaling Mt. Norquay Via Ferrata. Feel on top of the world as you explore one of the five breathtaking routes along the assisted climbing experience. You don't need any previous climbing experience, and you'll be joined by an ACMG-certified guide as you climb ladders, cross suspension bridges and take in rarely-seen views of Banff National Park at elevations of up to 2,450 meters. Looking for some more information, take a look at these reasons why you need to give it a go. It's an adventure you won't want to miss!

Open daily from June 8, 2024.
