Lake Louise Ski Resort Opening Day: Resort opens with substantial snow base

Lake Louise Ski Resort opened today with a base of 40cm (16”) and 42cm (17”) of fresh snow in the last seven days. This new snow, along with Lake Louise Ski Resort’s enhanced state-of-the-art snowmaking system, has set a generous foundation for the season ahead and a desirable base for upcoming events, like the Lake Louise Audi FIS Ski World Cup, happening in just three weeks.

Opening Day success after two weeks of snowfall

Over the past two weeks, the Canadian Rockies was blessed with consistent, heavy snowfall. Because of these recent storms, on Opening Day, Lake Louise Ski Resort was able to open the longest run to date in the Canadian Rockies from the top of Glacier Chair. This run (which consists of three named runs) was the perfect green/blue warm-up for skiers and snowboarders to fire up their muscles and practice their first few turns of the season.

Resort will host first stop of the World Cup downhill season

With more than 70cm (28”) of recorded snowfall and the added efficiency of improved snowmaking infrastructure, new equipment introduced this season, Lake Louise Ski Resort is well on its way to hosting the Men’s and Women’s World Cup races (Nov. 25-27 & Dec. 2-4). The ski resort will kick off the World Cup downhill season, becoming the first stop on the worldwide circuit, after the cancellation of European races in Zermatt-Cervinia (originally scheduled for this weekend). Lake Lousie Ski Resort is one of the only North American stops on the World Cup racing circuit and the only stop this year that will host men’s and women’s racing events back-to-back.

Opening Day on the mountain

Known for its spectacular views of Mount Temple, the Victoria Glacier, and the famous Lake Louise, Opening Day at Lake Louise Ski Resort was no exception. Soft snow was falling through whips of cloud and colourful skiers and snowboarders looked like a scene from storybook as they dropped over the playful rollers towards the snow-covered valley below. The coverage on the runs felt exceptional and conditions were perfect for carving deep, fast turns. Plus, the first 100 riders got a limited edition “I was there Opening Day 2022” long-sleeve shirt.

Hearty laughs and the chatter of old friends reconnecting could be heard through the Lodge of Ten Peaks where The Powder Keg, Lodge of Ten Peaks Café, and Slopeside Coffee were all open to serve guests a tasty warm-up or satisfying pint.

More dining, lifts, and terrain are expected to open in the coming weeks. Follow SkiBig3’s social channels (@skibig3) for the latest news on terrain openings and resort developments.
