US Thanksgiving: Start Your Ski Season Earlier

Whether you’re carving fresh tracks through Banff Sunshine, Lake Louise or Mt. Norquay, SkiBig3 delivers an experience unlike any other. With an early-season start, all three resorts open, and a long ski season ahead, Banff and Lake Louise are the perfect way to kick off winter.

Thanksgiving is one of the best times to visit - get on snow early, skip the peak holiday crowds, and take advantage of great early-season value. Conditions can vary, making it the perfect time to ease back in with a lesson or find your rhythm on freshly groomed runs.

Even better, there are no blackout dates for Ikon Pass (Full) and Mountain Collective pass holders, so you can maximize your days on the slopes. From first chair to après-ski, it’s the ultimate early-season escape in the Canadian Rockies.

What's Going on in Banff during US Thanksgiving?

November at SkiBig3 marks the start of ski season, with early openings at Banff Sunshine Village, Lake Louise Ski Resort, and Mt. Norquay. It’s the return of winter - think first chair laps, crisp mountain air, and that unbeatable early-season stoke as skiers and riders get back on snow. With fewer crowds and a laid-back, locals-first vibe, it’s one of the best times to carve out those first turns of the season.

Off the slopes, the Banff Christmas Market brings festive charm with artisan vendors, food, and live entertainment on select weekends starting in late November, while the Banff & Lake Louise Hot Chocolate Trail invites visitors to explore a variety of cafés and restaurants serving creative, limited-time hot chocolates throughout town. Together, they create a cozy, holiday-inspired mountain experience.
