Why Spring is the Best Time of the Year to Travel to Banff and Lake Louise

With longer days and temperatures warming up, we are sensing that spring is on its way! While other nearing resorts are finishing their season, here at SkiBig3, we are only ramping up our spring festivities. If you are not one for the colder temperatures we see in January - February, then March– May is your time to travel to Banff National Park.

Ski in some of the best snow conditions

Fun fact: SkiBig3 has one of the longest non-glacial ski seasons in North America, with most of our snow falling between March and May. We also see temperatures at the resorts warm up dramatically, to a comfortable 3 – 14 degrees Celsius (37 – 57 Fahrenheit).

This year, Mt. Norquay is set to close April 20th, Lake Louise Ski Resort wrapping up on May 4, 2025, and Banff Sunshine (will be open until May 19th, 2025. This means, you still have just under 2 months to experience some of our best snow, in some of the best skiing temperatures.

Need we say more?

Spring Events for Everyone

Sunnier and longer days and warmer temperatures also mean patio season. After a full day of skiing (or 1-2 laps), there is nothing better than grabbing a cold drink and sitting out on a sun-soaked patio.

This season, Banff Sunshine, Mt. Norquay and Lake Louise Ski Resort have ramped up their patio après scene – hosting tons of spring events to keep the après stoke alive. It’s the perfect time to head to the patio, crack a cold one and kick back to the sounds of local music while working on your goggle tan.

For those looking to travel with little ones over the Easter break, don’t worry, he will find you even in the Canadian Rockies.

On Easter Sunday, Mt. Norquay, Lake Louise Ski Resort and Banff Sunshine will be hosting easter egg hunts. You will also find the Easter bunny hopping all over the 3 resorts on easter weekend. If you find him, you might just get a chocolate treat!

More Activities on Offer

Thanks to longer daylight hours, between 14-15 hours a day, a spring visit to Banff National Park means you can spend more time skiing  and maybe try out some other warmer activities on offer. As early as May, you can play golf and ski all in one day. If you’re the adventurous type, there are heaps of hikes that are safe to climb, or you can rent a bike and explore the local area.

In spring, there is more time to do everything you have on your bucket list.
