The Ultimate Guide to Summer Skiing at Banff Sunshine

Think ski season ended in May? Not in Banff.

Thanks to an incredible snow year, Banff Sunshine is extending winter with 16 days of summer skiing and riding from June 20 to July 5, 2026. While hiking trails begin to open in the valley, the slopes stay covered in snow, creating one of the most unique experiences in the Canadian Rockies.

What is Summer Skiing?

Thanks to its high elevation and deep winter snowpack, Banff Sunshine will be one of the few places where skiers and snowboarders can enjoy natural snow well into the summer months, often under blue skies and warm temperatures.

Summer skiing is the perfect excuse to trade hiking boots for ski boots and experience Banff from a completely different perspective.

What Will Be Open?

Current plans include access to:

  • Strawberry Express Chairlift
  • Standish Express Chairlift

Terrain will be confirmed closer to opening day, with groomed runs and the Summer Strawberry Terrain Park expected to be part of the experience.

Stay on the Mountain

For the ultimate summer ski getaway, stay at Sunshine Mountain Lodge, Banff's only ski-in, ski-out hotel. The lodge opens June 19, and every stay includes summer ski access, making first chair and sunset mountain views effortless.

Need Rentals?

The Sunshine Village rental shop will be closed during summer operations. For visitors staying in Banff, the SkiBig3 Adventure Hub offers ski and snowboard rentals throughout the entire summer ski season, making it easy to pick up gear before heading to the mountain. Rentals will operate on a walk-in basis and depend on availability. Please note the SkiBig3 Adventure Hub will not open until approximately 12:00 pm on June 30th (time subject to change).

Good to Know

Summer sightseeing and hiking at Sunshine Meadows are not available during the ski season. The mountain is dedicated entirely to skiing and riding until July 5, with summer sightseeing operations beginning on July 6.

Why Try Summer Skiing?

There's something unforgettable about carving turns in June and July while the rest of Banff is exploring trails and patios. The crowds are small, the atmosphere is relaxed, and the combination of sunshine, snow, and mountain scenery creates a ski day unlike any other.

If a Banff summer trip is already on the calendar, packing skis might just be the best decision of the vacation. Here is the North – where winter is still a thing.
