The Best Hidden Patios in Banff and Lake Louise

Now, when we say "hidden" we don't mean unknown; we mean tucked away from the foot traffic of Banff and Lake Louise's most popular spots. All of these patios provide a unique dining experience with a breathtaking view of the Canadian Rockies. Whether you want to be dressed to the nines or grab a post-hike beer, Banff has a hidden patio for you.

The Bison

Voted one of the top ten fine dining restaurants in Canada, The Bison specializes in locally sourced and expertly made farm-to-table food. The Bison's patio is perched over the pedestrian-friendly Bear Street and provides a beautiful view of Sleeping Buffalo Mountain (Tunnel Mountain) and Mount Rundle with the lush surrounding greenery. They are open for dinner service throughout the week and offer a delicious Sunday brunch.

Rose & Crown

Established in 1985, The Rose & Crown is Banff's oldest pub, and it's where the locals love to go and meet for after work drinks. The Rose & Crown offers daily drink specials and serves up breakfast, lunch and dinner! Their patio is on the third floor of the historic Caribou Corner building that overlooks busy Banff Ave, making it a great space to get away from it all.

Magpie & Stump

At 36 years and counting, Magpie & Stump is one of Banff's oldest establishments. In the warmer months, their open-air El Patio provides a cozy but lively atmosphere. Enjoy a little bit of Mexico in Banff with their sun-drenched taco bar and over 60 different types of tequila to keep you saying "¡Uno más por favor!".

Elk & Oarsman

As Banff's best sports bar, you're always in for a good time at the Elk & Oarsman. Their rooftop patio offers an incredible 360° view of the mountains that surround the Banff townsite. You can reconnect with friends while enjoying the scenery over a frosty cold one and a delicious elk burger. The Elk & Oarsmen also offers live entertainment and genuine Canadian hospitality.

Chuck's Steakhouse

Whether you live in Alberta or it's your first time visiting, no trip to Banff is complete without indulging in some of Alberta's best beef. Chuck's Steakhouse is a local restaurant named for a local legend that touts a casually elegant atmosphere and stunning views from every table. Take in beautiful views of Mount Rundle and Sulphur Mountain as you enjoy their grass-fed, dry-aged steaks and sturdy cocktails.

Three Bears Brewery and Restaurant

Okay, we know this isn't rooftop, but it is open top! Three Bears Brewery and Restaurant has a unique glass, retractable roof that serves to make their restaurant a patio. Bring the outdoors inside with all the creature comforts of tasty food and on-site brewed beer.

Whitehorn Bistro

Witness the best view of Lake Louise without being at the very popular lakeshore with Whitehorn Bistro's sky-high dining deck. Their thoughtfully created menu uses many of the finest seasonal ingredients sourced from local and boutique purveyors. While the food is upscale, their casual environment is welcoming to all.
