SUP & Kayak Safety Tips

Whether you're a beginner looking to dip your toe into paddling or an experienced paddler looking for a refresher, it's important to prioritize safety to ensure a smooth and safe experience.

The SkiBig3 SUPs and tandem kayaks are inflatable allowing you to transport your rentals and explore those pristine mountain lakes easily.

SUP and Kayak Safety Tips

Stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) and kayaking are some of the best ways to explore the hidden corners of Banff National Park. However, as inviting as they are, it is important to remember how to enjoy them safely. The water in lakes and rivers can be cold, even on a hot day, so make sure you are prepared if you fall in and ensure you always wear a lifejacket or PFD to help you stay afloat.

List of Paddle Safety Tips

If you're ready to stand-up paddleboard in Banff National Park, Parks Canada has made it mandatory to fill in a self-certification permit. Failure to do so could leave you with an unwanted fine. Self-certification permits are required for anyone paddleboarding, kayaking, fishing, or boating in Banff National Park. They can be found at the lake or river, or available to fill in online before your adventure. By filling in the permit, you are helping to stop the spread of harmful aquatic invasive species. Don’t worry, all SkiBig3 Adventure Hub watersport rentals are cleaned after each use, so rest assured they're safe to use in Banff National Park.
