Options to Help You Find Your Perfect New Year’s Eve Celebration
Everyone’s idea of a perfect New Year’s Eve Celebration is a little different. Whether you are looking for something wholesome for the whole family or a romantic getaway for two, choices abound. To help you weed through the options, here are a few tips on what parties you can find in town, slope-side and away from the crowds.
Banff Ave is the place to be for the countdown to 2016 in part because you can double your fun: ring in the New Year nice and early at 10pm on the skating rink at a family-friendly affair or stay up a touch later to take over main street and enjoy fireworks right at midnight.
If wholesome isn’t what you are after, bars and restaurants throughout town have a variety of offerings; tickets can be purchased for dinner and the ensuing party with entertainment or save big bucks by dinning in and purchasing the party portion alone. The Elk & Oarsman, Park Distillery, The Bison Restaurant, Wild Bill’s and The Maple Leaf Grille & Lounge all have parties planned. Whether its glitz and glam or barn-dance fun you are after, there is a venue catering to you.
If having after hours access to the slopes sounds like your style, each of the Ski Big 3 resorts host its own torchlight parade. While the glow of Mt Norquay’s torchlight parade can be seen and enjoyed from the town of Banff, Sunshine Village and Lake Louise Ski Resort have slightly more exclusive events planned.
To partake in Sunshine Village’s festivities, book your stay at Sunshine Mountain Lodge, the only ski-in, ski-out resort in Banff National Park. Hotel guest will first watch specially trained torchbearers illuminate the slopes with bright colors then will enjoy a decadent 6-course meal in the Eagle’s Nest.
The Lake Louise Ski Resort kicks off their celebration at the mid-mountain lodge with après drinks, appetizers and live music. You are invited to join the torchbearers down a freshly groomed green run for a set of first tracks by torchlight after the resort closes to the public. After making your way down as part of the parade, festivities resume at the Sitzmark Lounge where a buffet dinner and live entertainment are sure to keep spirits high. It may well be the perfect way to wrap up a day on the slopes of Lake Louise!
Solitude and Something Else…
If a bustling party isn’t your idea of ideal, consider heading to Lake Louise and skating your way into the New Year. With lights illuminating the lake rink and ice castle, it may well be the most peaceful place around for a serene, quiet countdown.
If you have packed a party dress and are dying to use it, head to either of the Fairmont properties: The Banff Springs Hotel or The Chateau Lake Louise. Both host New Year’s Eve Galas worthy of the setting: think ballroom, orchestra and plenty of glamour.
