Get Ready to Ride! Richardson’s Ridge Opening at Lake Louise Ski Resort

Big news for skiers and riders this winter. Lake Louise Ski Resort has officially opened the first phase of Richardson’s Ridge, welcoming guests to brand new terrain as of Wednesday, December 17, months ahead of schedule.

This exciting new terrain adds more beginner and intermediate skiing at Lake Louise Ski Resort, giving visitors even more room to explore one of Canada’s most iconic mountain destinations. The season at Lake Louise is already shaping up to be historic, with the resort reporting its highest December snowfall in the past decade.

While Richardson’s Ridge is now open for skiing and riding, a formal opening celebration and ribbon cutting experience is planned for later in January to officially welcome the new terrain area.

New Terrain at Lake Louise: What to Expect at Richardson’s Ridge

Richardson’s Ridge is served by the new Richardson’s Ridge Express, a detachable high-speed quad that provides quick and comfortable access to the area. The addition introduces five new green and blue runs, along with wide, naturally gladed terrain designed for relaxed cruising and confidence building.
With low angle pitches and an open, playful layout, Richardson’s Ridge is ideal for beginner and intermediate skiers and riders, as well as anyone looking to enjoy scenic laps without steep or technical terrain.

Covering approximately 200 acres, the new area is similar in size to the Larch area and offers sweeping views over Pika Valley. The terrain is approachable while still delivering the expansive alpine feel Lake Louise Ski Resort is known for.

Richardson’s Ridge significantly expands Lake Louise’s beginner and intermediate offerings, creating more space to learn, progress, and explore. The combination of groomed runs and natural glades allows skiers and riders of all abilities to find their flow and enjoy quieter, less crowded terrain.
This new area is especially well suited for families, progressing skiers, and those looking to log more mileage while soaking in the incredible mountain scenery.

The opening of Richardson’s Ridge builds on a series of major investments made at Lake Louise Ski Resort over the past five years, including the Summit Quad, West Bowl, Juniper Express Lift and Learning Area, and the Pipestone Express heated bubble six seater. These projects highlight a long-term commitment to thoughtful growth, terrain diversity, and improving the overall guest experience.
