Response to Employee Residence Fire at Lake Louise

On Monday, July 5, 2023, a catastrophic fire destroyed the Charleston Residence, home to 180 employees of the Lake Louise Ski Resort. Thankfully, there were no serious injuries and all team members have been accounted for. Short-term accommodations have been secured and work is being done to determine next steps. Resort operations for the summer gondola have been suspended until Thursday, July 6. Parking lots and shuttle services remain available for visitors.

Donation list

Many in the community are looking for ways to assist with in-kind donations. The supply inventory is changing quickly with on-going community donations and staff pick-ups.

The following list includes items of immediate need, updated as of 2pm July 5, 2023:

  • men's box briefs (new)

  • women's underwear (new)

  • hair brushes

Donation drop-off locations

Donation drop-offs can be made at the following locations:

  • SkiBig3 Adventure Hub, 114 Banff Ave

  • SkiBig3 Head Office, Suite 215, 207 Banff Ave (Sundance Mall)

  • Banff Train Station

  • Lake Louise Inn

In order to not overwhelm the Lake Louise Ski Resort donation centre and the amazing folks working in it, we are kindly asking the community to hold onto their clothing donations for now while the team sorts through the many bags of clothing already received.

Financial donations

Financial support will play a vital role in the community's long-term recovery efforts, ensuring resources are directed where they are most needed by those displaced.

Financial donations can be made securely through the Banff Canmore Community Foundation Bow Valley Emergency Fund

Thank you to all the dedicated first responders who attended the scene, community support services, and people near and far who have generously assisted with in-kind and financial donations, on-going support and compassion for our Lake Louise team members. We are grateful for your support.
