Yes we’re still skiing here. Yes it’s still awesome.
While a lot of people are trying to roll out their picnic blankets on brown grass, we’re still shredding freshies.
And when we say freshies, we’re not talking a dusting of snow. With 22cm (8.6in) in the last week alone at Sunshine Village, on top of a current 210cm (6.8ft) base and a staggering total snowfall of 884cm (29ft) this season, we’re still doing life right here in Banff National Park.
Alas, only one more week of skiing remains, but man we’ll make sure it’s a good one. Here’s what’s happening at Sunshine Village as we end the 2013-14 season on a high.
Spring Concert Series – May 17-19– This five-week long concert series features live music every weekend at Sunshine Village and welcomes Shred Kelly to sing out the season. You can either kickback and enjoy the apres ski atmosphere or cut a rug in your ski boots. Both are acceptable.
NEW EVENT – Salomon SlushShine Rail Jam – May 17 – A rail jam set in slush, what more could you ask for! This event encourages riders to cross a water mote with as much style they can muster. Skiers and snowboarders will compete on the three feature set up and judged on style, difficulty, execution, variety, and the elusive dry boots.
Bikinis & Boardshorts for Cancer – May 18 – Raising money for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, guys and girls of all ages are welcomed to raise money skiing, snowboarding or simply riding the Strawberry Express quad chair in their snow pants and bikinis, or boardshorts.
86th Annual Slush Cup – The season culminates in this event. Welcoming crazy skiers and snowboarders brave enough to ski or ride over a pool of ice cold, slush water, wearing their craziest and most original outfits. Awards are given for biggest splash, best costume, and to those victorious few who make it across the ice pond. Enjoy the sunny weather, beer garden, and live music throughout the day. Open to everyone (non-skiers included) for the price of a gondola ticket to the main village area.
