Community Connections Ski Days with SkiBig3

At SkiBig3, we believe that skiing and snowboarding should be accessible to everyone. This winter, we partnered again with Settlement Services & Community Connections in the Bow Valley to host three incredible events designed to introduce newcomers to Canada to the joy of winter sports and true Canadian experiences. With free lessons led by our Nonstop instructor team, equipment rentals, and lift tickets, these events helped break down barriers and welcome more people to the slopes.

Introduction to Skiing and Snowboarding

This year’s Community Connections events took place across all three SkiBig3 resorts, offering participants a unique experience at each location:

  • Lake Louise Ski Resort – February 7, 2025: The first event was a full-day experience at Lake Louise, where 26 participants got their first taste of skiing and snowboarding in a breathtaking mountain setting. With the Nonstop instructors guiding them, participants gained confidence and made their first turns on snow.
  • Banff Sunshine Village – February 13, 2025: The second event brought 24 participants to Banff Sunshine Village for another full day adventure. Sunshine’s vast terrain and stunning scenery made for an unforgettable learning experience, with many first time skiers and riders developing their skills and gaining new confidence on the slopes with Nonstop instructors by their sides.
  • Mt. Norquay Night Ski – February 21, 2025: The final event welcomed 21 participants to a night skiing session at Mt. Norquay, giving them a unique opportunity to experience the magic of skiing under the lights. Nonstop instructors facilitated unique lessons while enjoying the welcomed warmer temperatures!

A participant reflected on their experience:
"It was truly unforgettable and one of the best days I’ve had since coming to Canada. Thank you so much for making this possible!"

More Than Just Skiing and Riding

These events weren’t just about learning to ski or snowboard, they were about bringing people together, showcasing a quintessential Canadian pastime, and making the mountains more accessible to everyone. Participants included Permanent Residents of Canada, Refugees, Ukrainian CUAET Visa Holders, and Foreign Workers, all getting a taste of winter in the Bow Valley.

By providing transportation with the help from Banff Airporter, lift tickets, equipment rentals, and lessons, the program helped remove the barriers that often make skiing and snowboarding feel out of reach. For many, this was their first time on the slopes, and judging by the smiles, high fives, and shared stoke, it won’t be their last.

One participant reflected on the event’s impact:
"I want to sincerely thank you for organizing this event. Everything was perfectly arranged, and I’m so grateful for the chance to meet new people and take in the breathtaking views. A special thank you to my instructor for their patience, guidance, and encouragement—it made my first skiing experience so much more enjoyable and memorable! I also want to express my deep gratitude to SkiBig3 and Sunshine Village. The effort put into helping newcomers, including Ukrainians like myself, means a lot. Your kindness and dedication make a real difference, and I truly appreciate it."

Another shared:
"I just wanted to take a moment to express my sincere gratitude for the incredible experience. It was such an amazing opportunity, and I appreciate the time and effort that went into making it happen."

Why Skiing in Banff National Park Feels Different

Skiing rarely happens in a place this protected, expansive, and deeply connected to nature. In Banff, three world-class ski resorts operate entirely within a preserved Canadian National Park, the oldest park in Canada, creating an experience that feels both elevated and refreshingly grounded.
