Childcare in Banff: Family-Friendly Options for Your Ski Trip

A ski trip to Banff is better when everyone in the family can enjoy it. Whether you’re looking to spend a full day on the slopes, book a few hours for yourself, or simply give the kids a fun place to play, there are childcare options across Banff, Canmore, Lake Louise and the SkiBig3 resorts.

From in-room babysitting to on-mountain daycare and kids’ ski lessons, here are some options to know about when planning your family ski trip.

With childcare costs often adding up quickly at ski destinations, Banff offers a range of options at different price points, including more affordable alternatives to childcare at many U.S. resorts

In-Room Childcare: Childcare Connection / My Hotel Sitter

For families looking for flexible childcare away from the mountain, Childcare Connections provides licensed and insured in-room childcare in Banff, Canmore and Lake Louise.

Caregivers are 18 years of age or older and undergo criminal record and vulnerable sector checks, with experienced caregivers available during the day and evening. Care can take place in your hotel room or residence, and longer bookings, including overnight stays, can be arranged.
Pet-sitting services are available as well, making this a convenient option for families travelling with four-legged companions.

Advance reservations are recommended, particularly during busy periods, although last-minute requests may be accommodated when possible.

Banff Sunshine Village: Ski Lessons, Daycare & Tiny Tiger Lessons

Want to spend some time on the slopes while your little one enjoys their own mountain adventure? Banff Sunshine Village offers daycare for children ages 19 months to 6 years, conveniently located at the mountain station of the gondola.

The daycare combines indoor play with weather-dependent outdoor snow activities. Kids can enjoy toys, books, arts and crafts, as well as activities such as sledding and building with big blocks when conditions allow.

For children ages 3 to 6, families can add a Tiny Tiger Ski & Snowboard lesson to their daycare booking. The program introduces young skiers and snowboarders to the mountain in a dedicated learning area near the Village gondola station, complete with a magic carpet and soft snow toys.

If your preferred dates don't show availability online, contact the Banff Sunshine Ski & Snowboard School Sales Desk directly. Advance booking is recommended.

Lake Louise Ski Resort: Licensed Daycare

At Lake Louise Ski Resort, the fully licensed daycare gives young children a welcoming place to play, rest and explore while the rest of the family enjoys the mountain.

The daycare welcomes children from infancy (add number of weeks 3? ) through pre-grade one, with separate playrooms for infants to 3 years old and children from 3 years to approximately 5 or 6 years old. The daily program follows Alberta’s Play, Participation, and Possibilities early learning framework, with activities built around children's interests, development and curiosity.

The daycare features a variety of spaces for creative and active play, including blocks, books, music, art, and hands-on activities. There is also an attached outdoor playground where children can enjoy playing outside with sleds, shovels and plenty of snow.

Families can purchase meals prepared by Lake Louise chefs or bring their own food, provided it meets the daycare’s food safety requirements.

Located in the lower building on the south side of the Lodge of Ten Peaks, the daycare has limited spaces, so advance registration is recommended.

For children ages 3 and up who are ready to spend some time on skis or a snowboard, Lake Louise Ski Resort also offers kids’ lessons through its Snow School. F. Groups are capped at six kids, with lift tickets, equipment and supervised lunch available as add-ons.

Mount Norquay: Kids’ Ski & Snowboard Lessons

Mount Norquay does not offer daycare, but families with older children can book ski and snowboard lessons for kids ages 6 to 14.

The First Time Ski & Board program is designed for children who are new to skiing or snowboarding. Through games, exploration and encouragement from friendly instructors, kids can learn the basics while getting comfortable on the snow.

Norquay offers a range of kids’ lesson options based on age and ability, making it a good choice for families whose children are ready to participate in a lesson independently.

Planning a Family Ski Trip to Banff

With options ranging from in-room babysitting to licensed daycare and beginner ski programs, families have plenty of ways to make a Banff ski trip work for different ages and interests.

Whichever option works best for your family, booking ahead is always a good idea. Childcare spaces and kids’ programs can be limited during busy periods, so planning early means more time to focus on what brought you to Banff in the first place: a winter in the mountains.
