Bucket list ideas for your next group getaway

It’s finally that time of year when the winter season is in sight. Here in Banff, we are already starting to see that crisp, fluffy, white snow; and are longing for days out on those spectacular mountains. There is no better time than now to start planning the ultimate friend’s getaway. Whether you’re looking for an adrenaline pumping adventure, filled with more advanced terrain and wild activities, or you’re drawn to the friendly groomers and a few cheeky après; Banff and Lake Louise have it all!

So where do you start?

We have the ultimate bucket list to make this the trip you and your buddies talk about for years to come.

Ski on some of the most pristine snow in the world

Will Lambert Snow Friends

Of course, no ski trip is complete without unforgettable days out on the mountain; or in our case, mountains. At SkiBig3, you can experience three world-class resorts (Banff Sunshine, Lake Louise Ski Resort, and Mt. Norquay) all located in one iconic Banff National Park, with quality snow conditions that last literally, all season long. Whether you’re a group of skiers, snowboarders or a mix of both; the SkiBig3 resorts have tailored runs for everyone.

With a SkiBig3 lift ticket, you have the flexibility to choose how many days you’d like on your pass. This will allow you and your friends to explore your favourite mountains over multiple days, with rest days included to explore other fun activities that are on offer in Banff and Lake Louise.

Explore some of Banff's best places to eat

Unlike most other ski towns, Banff has one of the most diverse ranges of award-winning culinary experiences. From hand-made Italian at The Fat Ox, to campfire inspired cuisine at PARK Distillery, or retro New York style at High Rollers; there is something that everyone will enjoy.

The Fat Ox: The newly renovated restaurant in the High Country Inn, the Fat Ox takes on a modern Italian-Alps inspired menu. This modern dining experience encourages you to sit back, unwind and enjoy delicious food and stunning town views.

PARK Distillery: Nestled on Baff Ave, this vibrant restaurant and working distillery serves up delicious campfire-inspired cuisine. As the only distillery within the National Park, it’s no surprise that this spot is always buzzing with energy and filled with happy diners.

High Rollers: Put your friendship to the test with some friendly competition. Enjoy some bowling alley fun, mixed with your choice of 48+ craft beers and New York style pizza. Past 10pm, if your party is still rolling; High Rollers have late night DJs on Saturdays and Sundays.

Try out some of the most exciting winter activities

With any group getaway, it can be challenging to come to the same consensus on what to do. For days where your ski legs need a break or where the group is torn; Banff and Lake Louise have a range of non-ski activities to try.

  • Go tubing at Mt. Norquay

Encourage a little more friendly competition and race down Alberta’s longest tube lanes at Mt. Norquay’s tube park. Team up in smaller groups or challenge your most competitive and enjoy hours of endless fun. For more fun after dark; night tubing is available on Fridays and Saturdays; and free with your SkiBIg3 lift ticket.

  • Abraham Lake Frozen Bubbles

Take in a sight quite like no other. From December through March, Abraham Lake is a famous destination known for its incredible display of methane ice bubbles. Take some skates and your camera and enjoy this incredible experience.

  • Experience new way to relax at the Fairmont Banff Springs

Sit back, relax, and soak in the soothing waters of the historic Banff Upper Hot Springs. Enjoy the healing properties of the mineral-rich waters while recharging your legs for another day on the slopes, all surrounded by stunning mountain views. If you’re interested in trying something new, the resort has introduced their first guided Forest Bathing experience.

  • Take a fatbike out and explore the snowy trails

Celebrating 100 Years of Mt. Norquay – Centennial Celebrations

This year, Mt. Norquay turns 100, and for a resort that has taught generations of Alberta locals how to ski and snowboard, that calls for a proper, mountain-sized celebration. On May 28, Norquay is hosting a centenary “Day of Nostalgia,” bringing the community together to celebrate a century of history, heart, and that unmistakable locals’ hill vibe.
