5 Reasons Why Visiting Banff-Lake Louise in March is the Best Idea Ever

Spring skiing in the Rockies is a must-do experience at least once in everyone’s lifetime. It’s a place where the snow rarely stops and the skiing competes with the views.

Blending the best of both worlds – balmy spring sunshine with epic winter powder – it’s easy to see why this is a favourite time of year for every die-hard skier and snowboarder.

Deciding to do some spring skiing in Banff and Lake Louise is easy, but our events and ski packages just made it easier. Here’s what you can expect to enjoy on your spring-time visit.

1. Powder Snow

In Banff National Park, the pow is now! And the best of the pow tends to fall in March, which sees our biggest snowfall. Considering we receive over 30ft of the white stuff annually, you’ve got a good chance of March pretty awesome for freshies.

Here are some of the best runs to hit on a powder day at Banff Sunshine, Lake Louise Ski Resort and Mt Norquay. Whether you’re a powder newbie or a seasoned expert, SkiBig3 has a run for you.

2. Warmer Temps

The average temperature in Banff in March is around 1°C. With our dry climate, that makes it practically t-shirt weather! A patio pit-stop at Banff Sunshine’s Trapper’s, Cliffhouse Bistro at Mt Norquay, or Lake Louise’s Kokanee Kabin is a great way to break up your powders runs.

Kick back next to the fire pit with a beer or caesar (you are in Canada, after all!) as you work on that goggle tan. The extra long daylight hours in spring mean there’s ample chill and shred time.

3. Epic Resort Events

Celebrations kick up a notch once the warmer weather hits . Mt. Norquay hosts the Bruno Engler Memorial Race, Back on Track Canadian Cowboy Ski Race, and the Bozo Cup Memorial Weekend.

The Lake Louise Ski Resort kicks off with the North Face Jr. Big Mountain Challenge, Newschoolers Tell-a-Friend Tour, and the Ken Jones Classic.

To top it off, Sunshine Village will offer their unique and Roxy Yoga Sessions as well as the Newschoolers Tell-a-Friend Tour.

4. Explore Two Towns

When you’re not skiing at any of the three resorts in Banff National Park, you can enjoy everything its two towns have to offer. Our SkiBig3 Lift Tickets offer a ton of perks to help you experience more of Banff and Lake Louise.

Take a trip down memory lane at the Whyte Museum of the Canadian Rockies, pamper yourself with a spa treatment, or hit the town for a night out – these are a few of our favourite ways to experience the flip side of the great outdoors.

5. So Much to Ski and Do

Aside from skiing or snowboarding, there are a ton of thrilling ways to get your adrenaline fix amongst the beautiful Rockies.

Banff Sunshine Village and The Lake Louise Ski Resort offers snowshoeing and winter sightseeing accessible on location from their chairs and gondolas. Or try out snow tubing, available at Mt. Norquay and Lake Louise Ski Resort. If you think it’s just for kids, we dare you not to let out an excited scream as your speed down the slope!

Sound like fun?
