Getting here: leave your licence at home and vacation car free

The Banff and Lake Louise area is frequently voted amongst the most walkable ski towns in North America primarily because a matrix of shuttles makes it easy to get door to door transportation without taking on the added challenge of winter driving.  So go green: consider saying no to a rental car, leave your licence at home and use the shuttle systems to sit back and relax as a passenger while still getting from A to B seamlessly.

Airport shuttles

While Calgary is a great town – if you are here to ski the Canadian Rockies, you may want to bypass the city completely.  Two different shuttle services leaving directly from the airport’s arrival terminal make it easy to do just that.  With customer service desks located in the arrival hall, both the Brewster Banff Airport Express and the Banff Airporter provide a shuttle service to Banff and Lake Louise that conveniently drops you off directly at your hotel.  Prices range between $54-$77 depending on your final destination, and run almost hourly with lighter schedules early morning and late evening.  If you choose to book a ski and stay package not only will you get discounted hotel rates and lift tickets but you can conveniently book these shuttles as add-ons as well.

To the slopes

Sunshine Village, Lake Louise Ski Resort and Mount Norquay all offer shuttles from Banff to the resorts with various convenient pick up points through out town.  Shuttle transportation is included in the purchase of a tri-area lift ticket allowing you free access to all three resorts with nearly half a dozen departure times before noon heading to each resort.  Staying in Lake Louise? Frequent shuttles to the Lake Louise Ski Resort provide quick and easy access, while a twice weekly shuttle every Thursday and Sunday from Lake Louise to Sunshine Village allows you the opportunity to switch up your ski scene during a Lake Louise vacation. Full Shuttle Schedule.

Around town

Banff is a walkable town.  The main street, Banff Ave, stretches 3 blocks and to walk from one end of town to the other should take no more than 15min at a leisurely pace assuming you aren’t sidetracked by one of many shops, cafés or restaurants.  There are a few points of interest a bit further afield, The Fairmont Banff Springs and the gondola up Sulphur Mountain for example, but a municipal public bus system called Roam can get you to all such places for a $2 fare.  With 3 different routes covering town and multiple departures each hour, Roam, the only fully hybrid-electric public transport fleet in Canada is not only convenient but environmentally-friendly.
