Mt. Norquay, Lake Louise Mountain Resort and Sunshine Village donated $42,000 equally between three local causes on Tuesday March 10, 2008 at the Banff Town Council meeting.
The donation is the result of Community Ski Days, a new initiative inviting locals to help locals. Bow Valley residents were invited to hit the slopes for just a $20 donation at Lake Louise Ski Area, Sunshine Village and Mt. Norquay in early December. The proceeds were then combined and matched by the resorts. The donation will benefit: the town of Banff for the new pedestrian bridge from Central Park to the recreation grounds; Canadian Rockies Public Schools for a new scholarship awarding one student from both Canmore Collegiate and Banff Community High School displaying strong academic and athletic effort; and the YWCA aiding the completion of 42 new rooms of affordable accommodation for those new to the area.
Ladd Snowsell, General Manager of Ski Banff-Lake Louise-Sunshine spoke on behalf of the resorts, “Community Ski Days was a new initiative this year in appreciation of the local support all three ski resorts receive and to invite locals to ski or snowboard in support of three worthy causes,” he said.
Andre Quenneville, General Manager of Mt. Norquay, Jacqueline Birk, Marketing and Sales Manager of Lake Louise Ski Area and John Scurfield, Vice President of Marketing for Sunshine Village presented the cheques to Mayor Stutz on behalf of the town, Kerry-Lee Schultheis on behalf of the YWCA, and principals Angela Flynn and Dave Brazeau on behalf of their respective Canmore and Banff schools.
