More fresh snow hits Banff-Lake Louise

November 5th, 2008: BANFF-LAKE LOUISE, Alberta, Canada

The latest snowfall is kicking off the season in Banff-Lake Louise, blanketing three of the world’s finest ski resorts in white! Mt. Norquay, Lake Louise Ski Area and Sunshine Village all received more snow over the last 24 hours, building on the current snow base – and on the excitement, for the start of the ski season.

With season opening only days away, all efforts are going into preparing the mountains for what will surely be a great winter. Mt. Norquay and Lake Louise Ski Area are boosting the natural snow with superior snowmaking technology. With most of Sunshine Village’s terrain above 7,000 feet, they have no need for snowmaking, and began their High Speed Gondola operations yesterday to aid staff in preparations.

As pre-season fever escalates amoung skiers and riders, the chance to dust off the skis or board and shake off the summer rust won’t be long now. Tentative opening dates are November 8th at Lake Louise Ski Area, November 14th at Sunshine Village and December 5th at Mt. Norquay.

Banff-Lake Louise is renowned for having one of the longest ski seasons in North America, from mid-November to late May, with almost 8,000 acres of skiable terrain and over 30 feet of dry and fluffy snow, in scenery so spectacular the United Nations has designated it a World Heritage Site. This is Canada’s Protected Playground, Banff National Park.
