We’re Open! November 2nd, 2009: BANFF-LAKE LOUISE, Alberta, Canada
Mt. Norquay is open for weekend skiing!
Mt. Norquay was the first mountain resort to open in Western Canada! This weekend Banff-Lake Louise locals enjoyed their first turns as they kicked off the season. The resort, which is open for weekends to the public, already offers some park features to keep freestylers, as well as all-mountain skiers and riders, very happy.
“It’s great to be skiing in October,” said Dan Markham, of Ski Banff-Lake Louise-Sunshine. “It was a really fun way to celebrate Halloween. We’re excited to be open already, and there’ll be more terrain available this coming weekend.”
Midweek opening at Mt. Norquay is scheduled for December 5.
Lake Louise opened on Friday, November 6
Lake Louise opened for the season on Friday, November 6 thanks to Mother Nature and one of the most sophisticated snowmaking systems in the world.
Skiers and snowboarders experienced those first delightful turns of the season from the top of Glacier Express Chair down three runs: Bald Eagle, Wiwaxy, and Easy Street. These runs descend 1,450 vertical feet over their 3 kilometer length. More runs and lifts should be open for the upcoming weekend, and most of the mountain following one or two more good snowfalls.
Preparations are well underway to again host the first, and Canada’s only, stop on the World Cup circuit. The Men’s races will take place on November 28 to 29, and the Women’s races on December 4 to 6.
All amenities at the full-service base area are open, including food and beverage facilities, retail, rental and repair shops, the daycare and ski school.
Lake Louise is also reaffirming its commitment to offering a superior terrain park and is pleased to welcome back Jeff Patterson who is world-famous for his designs. Offering a unique and exceptional variety of rails, boxes, jumps and other special features, small portions of the park are already open.
Reduced lift ticket prices are currently in effect. Adults can ski or ride for $38, seniors (>65) and youths (13-17) for $26.40 and children (6-12) $12.50. Louise Card holders will receive a $10 discount and do not have to use their first day free.
Big Snow Opens Sunshine Village!
Sunshine Village opened on November 11 with another 60cm of fresh snow in the previous 4 days! Five lifts and 47 runs were available to skiers and snowboarders, who were enjoying another great snowfall during the day and a base of almost a meter.
This season there’s even more reason to visit, with the newly renovated Sunshine Mountain Lodge opening 30 new eco-luxurious rooms in December.
Mt. Norquay and The Lake Louise Ski Area are already open, and it won’t be long until all 8,000 acres of Banff National Park’s skiable terrain is available.
