Ski Areas Donate to Banff’s Youngsters
March 25th, 2009: BANFF-LAKE LOUISE, Alberta, Canada
The three ski areas of Banff-Lake Louise today presented $8,500 to the Banff Child Care Centre to aid with upgrading the facilities for Banff’s youngest community members.
The money is donated from the Community Ski Days, held at Mt. Norquay, Lake Louise Ski Area and Sunshine Village, which raised funds for local causes.
“The children will be very excited!”, said Meaghan Connell, Chair of the Daycare Society of Banff. “This means we’ll have a safer and more fun environment for them to play in. The money is a really big help, and will go towards resurfacing the play yard and replacing the aging equipment.”
While designs for the project are still being finalized, the new equipment will ensure the daycare meets legal requirements while being age-appropriate and, most important of all, fun for the 95 children, ages 12 months to six years.
The Community Ski Days, held in December 2008 and January 2009, saw the three ski areas show appreciation for local support by offering Bow Valley residents the opportunity to ski or ride all day for a donation of just $20. All proceeds were matched by the resorts and donated to the Banff Child Care Centre, Canmore Community Daycare Society, construction of a pedestrian bridge in Banff, Lake Louise Recreation Center and the Canadian Women’s Biathlon Team.
Today’s presentation follows the Shake the Drake event in Canmore, where $8,500 was presented to the Canmore Community Daycare Society. The money will go towards the Daycare New Building Campaign, raising funds to improve the building facilities for Canmore’s children, from newborns to 12 years old.
