The Snow is Whiter on Alberta’s Side
December 9th, 2008: BANFF-LAKE LOUISE, Alberta, Canada
Banff National Park’s ski resorts; Mt. Norquay, Lake Louise Ski Area and Sunshine Village received 27cm of snow in the last 48 hours, with a base of over one metre, while other resorts are still cutting the grass.
With resorts in British Columbia and throughout America being forced to push back their opening dates, Banff National Park’s three resorts, thanks to their unique location high in the Canadian Rockies, have now been open more than one month, and were again hit this weekend with another heavy snow storm.
When considering Canadian ski options, many skiers and riders think only of famous British Columbia resorts. Snow lovers may not realize the difference between us and these resorts, many of whom received rain to their summit this week and others were forced to delay opening. Meanwhile Mt. Norquay, Lake Louise Ski Area and Sunshine Village are a snow-sure bet, which is why the first World Cup races of the season are held here every year.
Lake Louise Ski Area and Sunshine Village have all their lifts open, and Mt. Norquay has opened more runs, meaning the three resorts now offer almost 8,000 acres of skiable terrain on one convenient, tri-area lift ticket – great news for early December. This is an impressive follow up to being the first resorts to open in Canada and with more accessible terrain than any resort in North America.
So while the rest of the world practice their snow dances, burn skis, beg the gods and watch cows graze on the slopes, we are enjoying the white stuff, and we invite you to join us. Come to Canada’s Protected Playground, Banff National Park.
