Almost 8,000 Acres Now Open
December 4th, 2008: BANFF-LAKE LOUISE, Alberta, Canada
Banff, Alberta, Canada – This weekend even more terrain will open at three of the world’s finest ski resorts; Mt. Norquay, Lake Louise Ski Area and Sunshine Village, offering almost 8,000 acres of skiable area, thanks to the latest snowfall.
Goat’s Eye Mountain at Sunshine Village will be opening this Friday, making all three of the resort’s mountains accessible, with all lifts operating. Sunshine Village opened last month with more terrain than any resort in North America, and is continuing to benefit from the snow blanketing Banff National Park.
Lake Louise Ski Area will also open the Larch Express quad and new Ptarmigan quad on Saturday, December 6, putting all lifts in full operation. The old Ptarmigan lift has been replaced with a new Leitner Poma fixed-grip quad for this season, with added comfort and foot rests. The top-drive system will significantly reduce power consumption and is a great addition to the resort on the weekend they host the Women’s World Cup Downhill and GS races. The Men’s races, held last weekend, were a huge success and this weekend spectators are again invited to join in the festivities as racers reach speeds of up to 120kms per hour.
Mt. Norquay will open for seven days a week this Friday, December 5, after being open for weekends since November 8. The day will be celebrated with a ‘Bring on the Cold’ rail jam and party on December 5 from 7pm, with free return shuttles from Banff. Cascade, Mystic and Spirit lifts will all be operating.
Having the first resorts to open in Canada, with one of the longest ski seasons in North America, set in a place so spectacular the United Nations has declared it a World Heritage Site, this is the ideal and real destination – Canada’s Protected Playground, Banff National Park.
