Creekside Refurb Offers New Experience

August 10, 2010: BANFF-LAKE LOUISE, Alberta, Canada

Creekside Development Model

Banff-Lake Louise will offer a brand new experience for skiers and snowboarders at the Sunshine Village base area this season. Creekside, the large clock-tower structure that faces Sunshine Village’s main parking lot, is getting extensive interior and exterior renovations over the summer.

The building has been torn to barely more than a steel skeleton as part of a major refit. When skiers and snowboarders arrive for the November 11 season opening (weather permitting), they will find a beautiful new façade, using glass and natural stone reclaimed from the resort and crafted for the building.

The Creekside restaurant will have nearly twice as much floor space, about 35 more customer seats and a completely new kitchen. The bar is being relocated to the north-east corner of the building, and there will be a new entrance.

Additions will include a new bakery, offering freshly made, on-site baked goods for the whole resort, and a wood-fired artisan oven for handcrafted pizzas. Those bringing their own lunch will be better provided for, with a beautiful indoor picnic area offering two-story open views of Mt. Bourgeau.

Ceiling-high windows throughout the building will allow visitors to enjoy the stunning surroundings and, using the latest technology, energy consumption will be reduced, and water usage minimised. All developments are based on the footprint of the old building, and all work has been planned hand-inhand with Parks Canada, to further the valued mandate of ecological integrity.

The retail outlet will move to a larger space on the second floor and the Grab ‘n Go coffee shop will be relocated, allowing for more space and a relaxed experience. The skier services area on the second floor will remain where it is, but with a crisp, updated look.

This major renovation is just part of the constant improvements at Mt. Norquay, The Lake Louise Ski Area and Sunshine Village to enhance the skiing and snowboarding experience, while conserving the environment of the National Park that they’re within.

Other resort developments include an exciting new boardercross and skiercross circuit at Lake Louise, a new lift at Sunshine Village to replace the Strawberry triple chair, celebrations of Mt. Norquay’s 85th anniversary and upgrades to Sunshine Mountain Lodge – including new carpets, redecorated public areas and family fun with Wii and Xbox.
