Jan. 14-17, 2010 Sunshine Village The Fairmont Banff Springs Sports Invitational in support of Robert F. Kennedy’s Waterkeeper’s Alliance Some of Hollywood’s top stars will gather to help protect North America’s waterways at this event, co-hosted by Golden Globe and Emmy Award winning actor Alec Baldwin and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. The stars will join activities including toboggan, cross-country skiing and dual giant slalom races, well within public view to skiers and snowboarders. The event will culminate with a gala dinner and concert at the Fairmont Banff Springs by Lyle Lovett. Tickets are available for the star-studded gala.

Jan. 30, 2010 Mt. Norquay The Mountain Smoker This is the third year of the resurrected Mountain Smoker endurance race. Participants have three hours to complete as many runs as possible down the Lone Pine: a 1,300 vertical feet double black diamond run. With the current record of 23 runs unbeaten since 1981, there’s everything to ski for. Registration is $10.

Feb. 6, 2010 Sunshine Village Sunshine 5000 Ski Mountaineering Competition In conjunction with the Alpine Club of Canada, Sunshine presents the only mountaineering competition in Alberta! Ski mountaineering combines athletic skiing and mountaineering skills over medium distances, incorporating technical ascents and descents. The event will feature two categories over two courses. The starting area of the race will begin for both divisions at 9am in front of the Day Lodge in the Village. All racers are expected to cross the finish line in front of the Day Lodge by 12:30pm.

Feb. 13, 2010 Mt. Norquay Billabong Flaunt It Slopestyle Each contest is being designed with fun in mind and Billabong invites all female shredders to come out and Flaunt It. The slopestyle contests are jam format so that everyone can get pumped watching each other, learn new tricks, and not feel the dreaded ‘it’s now or never’ pressure. Each competitor will be allowed to do as many runs as possible with the judges watching throughout the day to determine the standout riders, and awards will be presented at the end of the day. Mar. 13, 2010 Sunshine Village Salomon Jib Academy The Salomon Jib Academy gives freestyle skiers the opportunity to ski with their heroes! The global tour of slope style ski events is catered for athletes up to 16 years old. Participants ski in groups with a professional Salomon coach, learning new tricks, the importance of safety, and meet other skiers. There will be a jam session with tons of great prizes, including a grand prize trip to Mammoth Mountain in the final event! Mar. 27, 2010 Mt. Norquay 44th Annual Bruno Engler Veterans Race This is the longest consecutively running ski race in Canada. The race format is a two-run GS held on the Cascade slope and finishing in front of the Day Lodge. Bruce Henry, a former National Team Coach, will be Chief of Course. Bruce will hold a race clinic for those interested in brushing up on their gate running skills on the Friday morning prior to the race.
Mar. 27-28, 2010 The Lake Louise Ski Area Junior Big Mountain Challenge The last stop in the Junior Freeski Series. Age categories for men and women are 7-11 years, 12-15 years and16-17 years. Qualifying runs take place on Saturday with finals and award ceremony on Sunday.

Apr. 30, 2010 Sunshine Village Gentle Giant Fundraiser Teams of 4 will compete in an exhilarating race, raising money for SADS. Competitors will receive tips from pros racers, breakfast in the Lookout Lounge and lunch in the Sunshine Beer Garden.

The race course features automatic start gates, differential timing, two jumps and no grooming. Participants must be at least 18 years old.

May 2, 2010 Sunshine Village Felix Belczyk Kinder Cup This specialized competition is open to members of the Alberta Alpine Association and the Provincial Alpine Club. In round robin format, the race course features automatic start gates, differential timing, two jumps and no grooming. The awards ceremony will take place in the finish corral following the race competition.
May 8-9, 2010 Sunshine Village Coors Light Peak Party Weekend and Playground Ski and Snowboard Competition This weekend will include a Snowpants Bikini Contest, deejays, the Coors Light Beer Garden, and a Best Couch in the House contest. Plus, the Playground Ski & Snowboard Competition will feature hips, rails, spines and boxes brought together in a mini slope style course on the Pandemonium run. This competition is designed to promote creativity through imaginative skiing or riding. The Playground is an open event, but will be limited to 30 competitors. This year we hope to have an Under 18 category. More details to come.

May 15-16, 2010 Sunshine Village Redneck Rodeo & Hillbilly Downhill Get your cowboy hat on and ride out to the Sunshine Redneck Rodeo! Events include Redneck ropin’, hubcap hurl, redneck horseshoes and hurlin’ curlin’. Events will run near the concert stage and Molsen beer gardens between 11am and3pm. The Hillbilly Downhill sees competitors race… but not with skis or a snowboard. Instead, competitors wear boots and take a hobby horse to lasso a calf and finish with the beer can stomp. Additional points will be given to those dressed in true redneck style. Contest entry is $5. More details to come.
May 15, 2010 Sunshine Village RBC Riders Squishee Cup Open to introductory snowboarders ages 8 to 14, this is a skills development program catered to junior riders, featuring tons of prizes! It is based on the “Learn to Ride” stage of the Canadian Snowboard Federation’s Long Term Athlete Development model. RBC Riders follows a timed snowboard cross-style format that helps kids learn and improve their snowboarding skills and get a first taste of competition in a safe environment. Registration is $5. May 22, 2010 Sunshine Village Bikinis for Breast Cancer An event raising funds for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, featuring tons of prizes! Open to women of all ages, participants will ski or snowboard down Strawberry run in their bikini tops. Entrants must raise a minimum of $125. Register by May 20. May 22-24, 2010 Sunshine Village Slush Cup Beach Party Weekend Sunshine’s final farewell party to the 2009-2010 winter season! The beach party will feature Molson Beer Gardens, a daily concert and Coors Light Snow Bunnies.
May 24, 2010 Sunshine Village 82nd Annual Slush Cup Voted one of the best spring events in North America, Slush Cup features wild and crazy individuals brave enough to ski or ride into a pool of ice cold, slush water, wearing their craziest and most original outfits. Prizes include Awesome Air, Best Belly Flop and Excellent Enema! Join the audience and help cheer on the participants! A concert will kick off at 12pm followed by the Slush Cup at 1:30pm. Participants must be at least 18 years old with valid photo ID.
